Age-related macular degeneration
Most commonly found in people over the age of 60, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) damages the macula of the eye, which leads to central vision loss. That means simple tasks, such as reading, recognizing faces, telling time, and watching TV, become difficult and frustrating. There are two types of AMD, wet and dry, and about 90% of these cases are the dry type. While there is no cure for macular degeneration, we offer many solutions – bioptics, telescopic glasses, low vision aids – at our eye care center near Las Vegas, Nevada. Our eye doctor understands how AMD can be very challenging and potentially lead to depression, which is why we never give up on trying to find ways to improve your vision.
Cataracts
Cataracts are a typical diagnosis in seniors, and our Las Vegas eye care center treats many patients with this condition. The most common symptoms of cataracts include blurred vision, poor night vision, light sensitivity, fading of colors, and double vision. Often, people ignore these symptoms and are not even aware that they have cataracts until they have an eye exam. Dr. David Yesnick will perform a detailed eye exam to evaluate your cataracts and recommend the most suitable treatment. Generally, once the visual symptoms interfere with your normal life, you will require cataract removal surgery.
Stroke-related vision loss
After suffering a stroke, vision loss is very common. The specific type of visual damage varies from patient to patient, but it is always devastating to the patient. At your Las Vegas, Nevada, eye care center, we stay up-to-date with all the different visual aids that can help – so you benefit from the best care possible. For example, Dr. David Yesnick can fit you with products such as customized Side Vision Awareness Glasses, teach you how to use new software for your computer, and enhance the lighting conditions in your home with full spectrum lighting. We also offer neuro optometric vision therapy to help improve the symptoms of stroke related vision loss.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma describes a group of diseases that affect the optic nerve, thereby leading to vision loss. Although glaucoma is linked to aging, there are other risk factors and it can really affect people of any age. Typically, glaucoma is slow to progress – which is why many people don’t realize they have it until it has reached a late stage, when vision loss has already occurred. To prevent this, we recommend regular eye exams at our expert eye care center near Las Vegas, Nevada.
When left untreated, glaucoma can cause blindness. At present, there is no cure for this eye disease, but chronic medication and/or surgery can slow the progression and save your vision.
If Dr. David Yesnick detects the signs of glaucoma, he will prescribe treatment immediately, which goes far towards preventing damage to your vision. It’s important to note that the main reason glaucoma leads to blindness is patients not following their eye doctor’s directions!
Diabetic retinopathy & diabetic eye disease
Diabetes, especially when it’s not controlled properly, puts you at risk of a range of eye diseases. Diabetic eye disease is a group of conditions, and diabetic retinopathy is the most common condition in this group. Diabetic retinopathy is characterized by leakage from the delicate blood vessels in your retina, which can distort vision.
All of these eye diseases can damage your vision and cause blindness when left untreated. In order to detect diabetic eye disease as early as possible – which enables you to receive treatment as soon as possible! – we offer specialized diabetes eye exams as a part of our Las Vegas eye care services. If Dr. David Yesnick diagnoses a diabetic eye disease, such as cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, or diabetic macular edema (DME), we are up-to-date with the latest treatments and technologies to prevent vision loss.
Retinitis pigmentosa (RP)
This condition is a series of genetic disorders that cause a deterioration and loss of retinal cells. As a result, you will experience poor night vision and a loss of peripheral vision. RP affects every patient differently, and some patients will maintain central vision until they are over 50 years old, while others may experience low vision by the time they are in their 20s. We offer detailed eye exams to diagnose this disease and evaluate the degree of vision loss. As the leading low vision expert providing eye care for Las Vegas, Dr. David Yesnick can recommend personalized, cutting-edge technologies to help maximize your remaining vision with RP.
