Vision Benefits for the Military
Depending on your beneficiary status and the specific type of coverage you have, Tricare provides limited vision benefits. However, medically necessary eye care services – such as a veteran eye exam to diagnose or treat a medical condition of the eye – are provided under all of the Tricare plans. In addition, some veterans may also qualify for vision benefits from the VA.
- In general, active duty members and activated guard & reserve members are entitled to have an annual eye exam and military-issued glasses, as necessary, from their eye care clinic.
- If sunglasses are mission necessary, then they are also available and covered.
- If you are a retiree, depending on your particular Tricare insurance plan, you may also be eligible for routine eye exams once a year or once every two years.
